Mrs. Viland is a lifelong resident of the Richland community, having graduated from RHS in 1975. After high school she attended Lutheran Brethren Bible Jr. Bible College, NDSSS, and graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN with a BA in music education. Before teaching at Richland, Mrs. Viland taught three years at St. Mary's School in Breckenridge. She began teaching part time at Richland the fall of 1985. and has taught music almost every year since then. She and her husband, Tim, live on the family farm near Galchutt. They are the parents of three sons, Troy, Marshall, and Kyle. Troy and his wife, Kiersten, have two children, Alivia and Elliott. Marshall and his wife, Carly, live in Fargo, and are expecting their first child in October. Kyle, and his wife, Emily, also live in Fargo, and became parents in June 2020, with the birth of their baby boy, Silas. Among Mrs. Viland's interests are gardening, traveling, and family history. She is especially interested her Norwegian heritage, and was able to visit Norway in 2014. In addition to teaching music at Richland, Mrs. Viland also gives private piano lessons, and is very active in her church, Eagle Valley Church, near Christine.
